If I forget you O Jerusalem. 2020. Paper Cut, Silvering, Canson 160g, 50x50 cm
If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
Let my right hand dry up... (Psalm 137 of David)
Jerusalem – all thoughts and hopes for it! The centuries-old dream of the Jewish people to return to it! «Next year in Jerusalem» – they say on the Passover Seder. At a Jewish wedding, after the words: «If I forget you, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand dry up» – the groom breaks a glass with his foot in memory of the destroyed temple.
In my picture, two strong Jerusalem lions with their mighty paws hold the words from the Psalm of King David, as Moshe held the tablets of the Covenant with letters carved on them on Mount Sinai! And around – the eternal city of Jerusalem with its extraordinary energy and light. The composition is completed with pomegranates in the corners, as a symbol of fertility, prosperity and marriage!
